NBN Building Rolling and Void Scaffolds
This month Stronghold Hire were asked to provide several scaffolds for new stair installations at the NBN Building in North Sydney.
Void Scaffolds – Safe and Smooth
Altogether there were 5 voids that required scaffold to allow a safe and smooth installation. The scaffolds would vary in size and shape and be installed over several stages, working in closely with the client’s program.
Project Challenges
One of the challenges on this project was the limited use of the goods lifts on site, the material also had to be kept to a certain size so that it could be moved in and out of the goods lift with pallet trolleys to minimize double handling.
All deliveries had to be carried out after normal working hours with strict times booked in. Component lists needed to be accurate and everything done in a timely fashion.
Scaffolding Installation
Here is a shot clip of the installation of some of the rolling scaffold.
Problem Solving Scaffolding
One of the stair voids came across an unforeseen problem whereby the main contractor needed to fit a fire prevention system in the ceiling above the void space but could not wait for the stairs (and scaffold) to be erected.
We suggested that we just span across the void which measured 6.5m x 6m. The safest way to do this is to erect a rolling scaffold which gets erected to the side of the void, behind the void handrails and then simply rolled out and locked into position over the space.
We were able to provide the main contractor with engineered drawings, load calculations etc and install the scaffold within a few days, keeping the job on track with minimum fuss.
Another Happy Client
This project is still ongoing, and we are due to start another similar one for the same client in Sydney’s CBD. This is another sign that we must be doing things right with another possible long term client coming on board.
