Edge Protection – Parapet Clamp System at Milsons Point

This month Stronghold Hire was asked to provide a safe working area on the rooftop of a 2-story building in Milsons Point. The client was removing and replacing the current glass balustrading.

We first suggested our commercial bracket but as our tubes run 90 degrees to the bracket, we had to come up with another solution. We decided on the parapet clamp and clamped it onto the outside hob. The team had to work around the timings of the school schedule and students. This meant an early start before anyone had arrived to ensure there was no delays and inconvenience for the client. The team set up a temporary horizontal lifeline from behind the glass balustrade, before using that to clip onto and install the clamps. The team used progressive hand railing and clips to ensure the project was double safe.

Edge Protection System Used

This job had a hob on the outer edge of the roof. It was enough for us to use our parapet clamp system for the edge protection system. Having got the hob width beforehand we had pre-set the parapet clamp to the hob width to ensure we didn’t overrun and interfere with the childcare daily run sheet. As a result, this reduced the time the team had to work in fall restraint.

The benefit of using the parapet clamp meant we could pre-set the hob width and therefore reduce the install time dramatically. Also, with using the parapet clamp it meant this job was no intrusive meaning no holes to patch up.
