Commercial Scaffolding – Manly West Public School

This month the Stronghold team were asked to provide a scaffold for re-roofing at the prestigious Manly West Public School. Manly West Primary School is situated in the Northern Beaches suburb of Balgowlah in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The school was established in 1922 and has a long and proud tradition as a centre of quality teaching and learning in the community.

School Scaffolding with Strict Deadlines

We have provided scaffolds for several school projects for this client and each trade knows exactly what is expected of them. The works were to be carried out in school holidays only, with strict start and completion times. This put an enormous amount of pressure on everyone working together to hit the deadline.

Modular Steel Scaffold Design

The design was a heavy-duty, 5 board steel modular scaffold with one stretcher stair and two basic stair accesses. Only one working deck was required at gutter height and as usual, we installed our fire-retardant containment sheeting.

Schools Scaffolding Means Long Shifts

Weekend work and long shifts scheduled in, the first delivery was on a Saturday morning at 7 am and we had to have at least 25% of the job erected and certified by 11 am for the other trades to start works. This was a big ask but with 9 scaffolders and 2 trucks of material we delivered the goods.
We were able to stay ahead of the rest of the program by using 2 large crews in opposite directions, the material was brought in as scheduled using our 4 trucks and moved easily around the site using long nose pallet trolleys and scaffold labourers.

Neither Seen Nor Heard

With scaffold fully erected in 3 days, we did not have to return for any modifications to suit the trades. Inclement weather did affect the program slightly but using our vast labour resources available for the final weekend work we were able to dismantle and remove all scaffold before the start of the new term.

It was if the staff and children never knew we were even there, except of course for the brand-new shiny roof!!!
