Specialised Scaffolding for RPA Hospital Car Park
Stronghold Hire were approached by the tier one company Built, to provide scaffold for the construction of a 9 storey car park at RPA Hospital, Camperdown. The scaffold was to be needed for the 27m high pre-cast walls and also for blockwork on the undercroft area.
Cup Lock Scaffolding Solution
Initially, the plan was to construct the undercroft using conventional formwork propping and bracing, then dismantle this and install the scaffold for the blockwork.
Stronghold suggested using cup lock scaffolding and designing it so that it could be used as edge protection and falsework for the form workers and then with small modifications (simple removal of bracing and transoms), it could then be used as an access scaffold for the brick layers.
Built decided that they would go with this proposition as a more cost effective and time saving solution.
A Challenging Project
This project had many challenges especially with the tight access to site for material deliveries and pick-ups. We also had to suspend some of the stretcher stair access to maintain the truck loading area at street level.
The photos show the suspended stretcher stair and the multipurpose undercroft area scaffold. This job was completed recently in March 2018.
