Shrink Wrap / Encapsulation at The Design Build Expo 2019
Stronghold Hire were recently engaged by the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) to provide advice on how our shrink wrap service may be of help to them.
The Design Build Trade Expo 2019
One of the lecturers at UTS had been commissioned to construct a very temporary Theatre for all of the lectures associated with the 2019 Design BUILD trade event at the International Convention Centre in Darling Harbour. The Design BUILD is a trade only event for professionals in the architecture, building, construction and design industries and is attended by thousands of people.
Shrink Wrap Scaffolding “Spikey” Designs
They provided us with a drawing of the scaffold design which was to be installed by the event organisers and two images of their proposal. Initially they wanted to wrap only the interior of the lecture theatre in heat shrink plastic but also add some additional ‘details’ by way of timber outriggers to create a ‘bumpy’ or ‘spikey’ surface finish.
Their original game plan was to use a red stretch Lycra fabric for the skin, however, this was relatively expensive and material intensive for such a short event that further privileges a theme of sustainability – i.e. it seemed a shame to throw the fabric away.
Scaffolding Installation Logistics
The logistics around the installation were a bit crazy as it was a trade show. The scaffold was to be supplied and erected by the event team and the site was to then be handed over to us at 8am Sunday. This meant that we had to work together to complete the lining by 10pm as the show started on Monday morning. This was a small timeframe but certainly realistic.
Versatile Shrink Wrap
The budget that they had was very modest hence, they only asked us to wrap the internal walls. At Stronghold, we felt that just wrapping the internal walls only would look very unpleasing to the eye, and not give them the desired effect so we suggested a full wrap but still within their budget. Needless to say the client was delighted with this proposal.
And That’s A Wrap!
The project was another success and another example of how versatile the scaffolding shrink wrap service we provide is!
