Over the years Stronghold Hire has been asked to provide scaffolds for voids such as stair or escalator voids. Carrying out works to ceilings in these areas are obviously too difficult to complete from your basic aluminium mobile scaffold and so void scaffolds are used.
Void Scaffolds – Safe Working Platform
Whether it is installing a false ceiling on a new construction project or simply changing some light fittings in a high street department store, we can provide a safe working platform suitable for the task with void scaffolding.
Understanding Void Scaffolding Client Needs
At Stronghold Hire we also understand that most of these void scaffolds that are in shop stores, hotels or office buildings can only be done out of normal working hours. We work in with the client to ensure that enough resources are allocated to deliver and erect the scaffold, complete the works and then dismantle and remove the scaffold within the given time frame. We usually choose our clean, lightweight aluminium modular kwikstage scaffold for these void works, especially night work in shop stores, hotels and office buildings.
Challenges for Void Scaffolds
Sometimes we do not have the luxury of being able to erect scaffold straight from the stairs or escalators due to weight restrictions (especially escalators) so we have to come up with a way of suspending the scaffold over the void space. A safe way of erecting and dismantling a scaffold that is to span over a void space is to install a rolling scaffold. This way the scaffold can be erected outside of the void space, behind the handrails and away from danger. The scaffold is erected on heavy duty castor wheels (instead of screw jacks) and once complete is simply rolled over the void space and then locked into position.
Dismantling Void Scaffolding
Once the works are complete, we simply unlock the wheels, roll the scaffold back from over the void and dismantle. If there is a limited amount of room to erect the scaffold then this is not a problem as we simply build the scaffold in smaller sections whereby we build a section then partly roll over the void, then extend another section, then roll again, then extend and so on……
